In the Meantime...

If you have not yet seen the movie "Frida", make sure to borrow a copy from somewhere, snuggle into bed with your laptop and watch it during a summer rainstorm. Then, if you like it, (which surely you will) go to ITunes and get a copy of the movie soundtrack. (My only complaint about the movie is that it was made in English. This hurt my soul a little bit, but the lyrical music and epic film making made up for it.) Nevertheless, the film is an inspiration. If only one could be as beautiful as Salma Hayek with a unibrow...

I have officially not socialized in two weeks. I feel like I am on an extended camping trip with running water and computer access. A few phone conversations here and there. I ran into a friend while I was running last week. She was having a very bad day. I stopped, sat down on a bench by the lake and cheered her. Other than this, I have been solitary. (I find that I really don't make as much noise as I thought I did.)

This is the first summer in 10 years that I am not traveling from one side of the world to another. It's strange, but nice. I compensate by running in a circle around town every day. (The running is more for me than for the men in their cars who feel it is appropriate to honk and drive more slowly as they go by.)

I am enjoying early summer hail storms in New England, and long, languishing sunsets that can only be described as succulent. I go to bed early and wake up without an alarm exactly 8 hours later. I am outlining my book chapters. I am eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day. My mornings begin with an iced cup of green tea and a banana, protein and no-sugar peanut butter milkshake...

In the meantime, I am wondering...or, at the very least, noting...that isolation can be very clarifying. Time to consider the recent past. Time to plot the future...

Now, if only I could get more done and not be so hard on myself for not being able to do it all in a day...

(And, yes, this still means that I am on sabbatical.)

Love,
Namaste

She bangs! She bangs! She writes!

A brief respite is good enough for this reader. Enjoy the summer.

Funny coincidence, I was just eating and drinking last week at a restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala called Frida's. It's a great place, full of prints of her paintings (and Diego's too).

Thanks, all. SeanG, ordinarily I would say that I am envious of your travels... :)

Zed--Can you give me the author? Sounds like a great book to read.

Cheers!

eckhart tolle, _a new earth_. about stripping yourself of the Ego and learning to live in the present moment, with non-resistance and surrender to the beauty of life. in other words, you could very well be the author of such a book yourself. it's how you seem to have been living. i've been enjoying the book but i'm curious as to what you'd think. thanks! zed.

Thanks, Zed. I will check it out and get back to you in a couple of weeks or so. Meantime, I am just about to finish "The Mastery of Love" by Don Miguel Ruiz. His book, "The Four Agreements" was much better. I recommend that one more than the love book.

Cheers! :)

Sounds like cleansing to me... Sound pretty effing great, actually. I'd like to share that bench with you, too, and not say a word.
