A Little Secret

So, here's a little secret: I am a fan of Post Secret. I saw this image last week, and it appealed to me, so I saved it to my desktop. From time to time, when I actually take a break from [my on-going existential crisis of] dissertation writing, I refer to the image above and remind myself of what is important here.

Without a doubt, so much time to myself leaves me reflective. Sometimes I can border on downright pensive, but this is nothing new.

What about you guys? Any good secrets that you are willing to share?

My secret? I love what you have to say. Even when you are on "sabbatical".

my little secret is that I can't bear to lose one more person including my cat and I'd rather be the next to go...

Dear Last Anonymous Friend,

Thank you for your secret. Loss is something terrible to experience. Please remember two things: 1) Your cat needs you and your life is very important to many others, and 2) No matter what, you are never alone.

Please check this out. The information contained within may be very useful to you or someone you love:

Like everyone else I enjoy your writing, but that's not a secret. My secret is that if elected President Sen. Obama is probably going to cost me a bundle of money. Just as Bill Clinton did before him. But then as now, the right thing to do is to support my country above my narrow self interests. And that's why I'm doing all that I can to see that he's elected. I just wish it did not hurt as much financially. But if it's got to be done for the good of the nation, I'm there to stand with him & the rest of us. The secret is that I've figured out the nominal costs here, but I'm certain that we'd not be able to survive as a Democracy any other way, frankly! Cheers & Good Luck, 'VJ'

Wow, VJ. This one blows me away. Although, I guess I'm not shocked that you are a fiscal Republican. But good for you for sorting through the CBA. I wish more Americans had the foresight to do the same. Bravo. :)

Thanks N, But Not ever a Repug exactly. But a real fiscal conservative. Always a Democrat though and Also a saver & conserver. Of everything. Really. Sorting it all out is not that difficult, and many people do the same thing. It's just the amount that always sticks with you. Think of a fully tenured prof's salary in a plush place. That sort of money. I'm not quite certain what CBA is either... But like I said, we've done it before & we'll do it again. (For the Clinton admin. it took us another full decade before coming back up to that level of income too!) Cheers & Good Luck, 'VJ'

Oye, VJ. You make me want to hide as long as possible from finishing the degree and thus have to start paying back these school loans on such a meager salary. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess...

CBA? Cost Benefit Analysis. Economics 101. No matter that I used to bring a flask to lecture. Apparently all of that learning has got me where I am today...

(Gulp.)

Yeah that's it. I knew it was there somewhere. There's just too Many Versions of CBA dearies! Too damned many to mention. Depends on the assets too. But for a PhD.? It pays to never ask. Especially now. Close & meet with the enemy. Always. That's the mission for the near term. Finish off the white whale.

And of course the flask to Econ lectures marks you as one of the 'traditionalists' too. Cheers & Good Luck! 'VJ'

Believe me, I get it loud and clear...
