Hibernating

I honestly cannot say that being in Boston this month is a dream come true. It has been so cold, overcast, and perpetually dismal. My body aches from the cold. My fingers recoil at the very thought of scraping ice yet again from the windows of my car. Public transport gives me motion sickness if I am not in a forward-facing seat on the train. When I am not silently cursing the T, I have to make a very conscious effort not to want to cause bodily harm to every single driver with Massachusetts license plates for his or her overt aggressiveness and unsafe driving. It has crossed my mind that there must be a test that every 16 year old must take in the People's Republic of Massachusetts to assure that everyone, yes, everyone, is a supreme asshole behind a steering wheel. Patience is a supreme virtue, but so is the acknowledgment of one's limits. To be perfectly honest, I'm just not a New England kind of girl.

Fortunately, there is a silver lining. There always is. One of my favorite things to do when getting to know a new city is to test out the local yoga scene. Fortunately, I didn't have to go far. An always warm, inspired, holistic yoga studio happens to live right down the street. There are many wonderful things about this studio, but the best part is that it is always very well heated and properly humidified. I can be found layering up so that I can walk 5 minutes down the block to strip down and get properly sweaty on my yoga mat. In the past couple of weeks, I have been studying under the gentle guidance of one of the best yoga teachers I have ever had. His name is John, and he is the only reason why I would even remotely consider making a more permanent move to Boston in the near future. John is my winter hero. John is good for my chi. Thank god for him and his heated yoga room.

Namaste

That would be 'Masshole.' And when I was greeted at the bus depot at Dulles airport at 7am by less than freezing temperatures and an additional, bitter 10-degree windchill, protected only by a meager spring jacket (I'd been in SoCal), I cursed Jack Frost something fierce... I might have cried instead, but my tears would have frozen to my eyelashes.

Oh, and I love you. Happy New Year!

Yes, the Massholes & Good Yoga! You've got the territory right N! There's good veggies nearby & some bagels too I'm betting. Living there long ago I always told my more philosophically inclined friends that the most important decision they made that day was when & how to cross Commonwealth & Mass Aves. Nothing else could possibly kill them quicker on foot or bike. But I really don't miss the cold much. Hope the trains are running on time too! Cheers & Good Luck, 'VJ'

I am also in love with my yoga teacher in Prague. I was thinking of kidnapping her back with me to DC. I think her nice husband might miss her, though. Plus, I've seen her do crow into headstand and back into crow. She could kick my ... with love, of course.
